Taking powders multiple times daily can be difficult, especially if/when one of those powders tastes a lot like pulverized chalk (i.e., tyrosine). We have hundreds of clients taking D5 Mucuna 40% powder and/or tyrosine (some at very high doses – 60+ grams of D5 Mucuna 40% and 10-12 Tbsp tyrosine powder daily) anywhere from three to six or more times daily. Several months ago we asked our clients how they mixed/took their powders; here is a compilation of their responses:

Mixing Options for Tyrosine and/or D5 Mucuna Powder

Before you begin, one of the things most recommended is that you vary how and with what you mix the powders so you don’t get burned out on any one method.

  • Blend with Organic Greek yogurt with or without fresh/frozen berries/fruit
  • Blend with a banana with almond/soy/coconut/rice milk with or without fresh/frozen berries
  • Add it to oatmeal
  • Put in a smoothie
  • Mix in applesauce or pear-sauce; add cinnamon and/or raisins to taste
  • Blend with yogurt with fruit – 2-4 ounces per serving
  • Blend with applesauce, Berry Stevia Drops (1 dropperful) and berries (blueberries or raspberries)
  • Mix in water and drink over 10-20 minutes (eat something before and after)
  • Mix in juice – orange, grape, apple, pear, mango, peach, pineapple
  • Mix with lemonade and/or iced tea
  • Mix with Boost or other meal-replacement shake
  • Mix with key-lime yogurt
  • Mix with chocolate, vanilla (or other flavor) pudding
  • Mix with pumpkin (straight from the can); add cinnamon, ginger and a pinch of nutmeg to taste
  • Mix with a small amount of frozen yogurt, sorbet or coconut ice cream (dairy free)
  • Blend with cooked sweet potatoes (hot or cold)
  • Mix with thick soups/stews
  • Mix with Silk Almond Milk (Dark Chocolate) – the thickness helps with the texture

Other ideas/thoughts/tips on Mixing D5 Mucuna powder and/or Tyrosine

  • Grind the tyrosine powder in a coffee grinder, Vitamix, Cuisinart or mortar and pestle to help with grittiness/texture and mouth feel
  • If you have a problem with the texture of the tyrosine, be sure and grind it up into a fine(r) powder and mix with some semi-solid food (i.e., applesauce, sweet potato or yogurt), thick juice (mango, coconut, pear) or put it in a smoothie to better cover the grittiness
  • Eat something before (and possibly after) taking the powders
  • Mix up tyrosine and/or D5 Mucuna the night before it is needed and store in the refrigerator
    • Put in Greek style yogurt, applesauce  or juice and mix; put in refrigerator overnight
    • After consumption, rinse with a little liquid and drink to get all remaining powder
  • Use Stevia (drops or powder) for sweetening
  • Add D5 Mucuna and/or tyrosine powder with other powdered supplements
  • Use a shaker cup to more thoroughly dissolve/suspend the powders in liquid of choice
  • “Chug” the liquid with tyrosine/D5 Mucuna (i.e., drink it as quickly as possible)
  • Eat something healthy and tasty after consuming the powders; just enough to change the taste in your mouth and make you smileJ
  • Use a TALL glass to mix up the powders/liquids so you have room to rock it back and forth as you drink it in order to keep the solids/powders in solution better, which will make it easier to swallow
  • Remember that the grit is not a “drug” or “chemical” but actually all-natural (either rice flour, the actual product itself or other natural filler) – this one was put forth by one of our long-term clients; she stated that when she thought of the powders in this way, it was much easier for her to get over the psychological hurdle of taking them throughout the day.
