One of the most confusing aspects of using amino acid therapy in a clinical setting is the proper use of urinary testing to determine how to adjust amino acid dosing. There is misinformation everywhere. Here I will try and convey, in as simple terms as possible, what we are really measuring and why it provides useful (and often crucial) information about how to achieve proper neurotransmitter function. Glutathione is the body’s main and most powerful antioxidant. Glutathione is produced by the cells in the body and helps to neutralize a wide array of free radicals that threaten our day-to-day health. Depletion of a person’s glutathione stores allows excessive free radical damage to occur, which can result in a large number of detrimental shifts in our health, eventually resulting in disease. Recognizing and addressing this fact is one of the hallmarks of addressing chronic illness, and nowhere is this more important than with Parkinson’s disease. (more…)

NeuroReplete is often used as part of amino acid therapy to help address the underlying neurotransmitter imbalance(s) involved in a number of conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD, ADD/ADHD, insomnia, cravings and increased appetite, addiction, restless leg syndrome and Parkinson’s disease. NeuroReplete contains the amino acids and cofactors necessary to improve the level and function of serotonin and the catecholamines, which include dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. (more…)

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that is made within the human body; in fact, it is the most important antioxidant produced by the cells and helps to neutralize a whole host of free radicals. Glutathione is also important for such things as DNA synthesis and repair, hormone production, amino acid transport and enzyme activation. If all that sounds like a bunch of ‘blah-blah-blah’ the take away here is that every system in the body is affected by the state of the glutathione system, especially the immune system, the nervous system (including neurotransmission), the gastrointestinal system and the lungs. Achieving proper neurotransmitter function using amino acid therapy is about pushing the right buttons. Nowhere is this more important (or confusing) than when a person is suffering from multiple conditions related to neurotransmitter imbalance. (more…)

NeuroReplete is a balanced amino acid formula that is often used as a foundational part of amino acid therapy. It provides 5-HTP and L-tyrosine along with the cofactors necessary to convert these amino acids into serotonin and the catecholamines (dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine), respectively. There are usually very few side effects associated with amino acid therapy; however, nausea can occur in two instances. (more…)
